Welcome to the third annual SuperMario Bulldog Basketball Extravaganza!

Welcome to the third annual SuperMario Bulldog Basketball Extravaganza! It is a free program for area youth, and more than 30 Bryant University students and student-athletes worked together to put this annual program together. We are officially sponsored by the Bryant University Department of History and Social Sciences; and the Bryant University Athletic Department. The second annual camp was held on Saturday, April 29th, 2006, from 11 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. SuperMarioCamp is a day in which 30 boys and girls, ages 10-12, can participate in this exciting event. They will learn about Capeverdean culture, play basketball, and be entertained by Tupper the Bulldog, the Bryant University Official Mascot, and the Bryant University Dance Team. We invite you to learn more about this event from our webpage, and we look forward to seeing you soon on the beautiful campus of Bryant University in Smithfield, RI!

The organizers of the SuperMario Bulldog Basketball Camp Extravaganza would like to cordially invite all members of the Bryant University community to stop by and cheer the campers on at any time during the camp!

A Message from Pawtucket Mayor James E. Doyle

Pawtucket Mayor James E. DoyleCongratulations to Dan Klotz and his students at Bryant University for coming up with a terrific idea and making it a reality. The SuperMario Bulldog Basketball Camp should be a wonderful opportunity for boys and girls of Capeverdean descent and all nationalities to come together for a day to play some basketball, to learn about the rich Capeverdean culture and to connect with some wonderful role models who are on the road to great success at Bryant University.

I am very pleased that through the efforts of CACD, many of the participants in this program are from Pawtucket. It is my hope and expectation that this first year is just the beginning of a long and productive relationship between the city of Pawtucket and the SuperMario Bulldog Basketball Camp.

MAYOR JAMES E. DOYLE

About Mario Correia

Mario Correia currently plays professional basketball in Europe, with the team Maia Basket of Portugal. Since 1997, he has been an integral member of the National Team of Cape Verde. In October 2006, he led the team in scoring and helped Cape Verde earn a Bronze medal at the Inaugural Lusophonia Games, an Internationally santioned competition between countries who speak Portuguese, such as Brazil, Portugal, Mozambique, Angola, East Timor and roughly a dozen other countries.

In his senior year at Bryant, Mario, a 6'3" guard, had 26 points in Bryant's win in the nationally televised National Quarterfinal game for the 2004-2005 season, propelling the Bulldogs to the semifinal game. He is an excellent shooting guard with terrific defensive skills. He has good shooting range and outstanding moves in traffic! He is the #5 all-time scorer in Bryant basketball history.

Mario averaged 13.8 ppg for the season, and 16.3 ppg in NCAA Division II tournament action, and was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference 2nd Team. Mario was the team's top returning scorer with 12.8 points per game in 2003-04. Mario graduated from Bryant with a degree in Economics. In 2005, Mario and his teammates on the Cape Verde National Team took on some of the top teams from across Africa in the African Basketball Championship Tournament. That tournament was held in Mario's home city of Praia, the Capital of Cape Verde. Go C.V.!
